November 2019 – January 2020

The following activities and classes are offered for the enjoyment of Chickasaw residents and their families. We are offering a wide range of activities for all ages, which we hope will meet the recreational needs of the community.

Fees:  Class fees are kept to a minimum.  No refunds will be considered after the second meeting.

Registration: You may register for any activity at Charles E. McConnell Civic Center. To register by telephone please call 452-6462/452-6467.  Register early to ensure your place.

Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree
Let’s bring in the Christmas season at Millers Park with plans to light our new Community Christmas Tree at 6:30 pm Friday November 22. Santa will arrive at 5:30 pm with many special activities during the evening. Bring your cameras for making memories of family traditions.

Community Thanksgiving Service
Let’s give Thanks together Sunday Nov. 24 at Chickasaw First Baptist Church 6:30 pm
Refreshment to follow.

Chickasaw Christmas Parade
2019 Chickasaw Christmas Land Yacht Parade
Friday, December 6th 6:30 pm
Parade will begin at Grand Blvd/Interstate and terminate at Jackson St. and join festivities at Miller Park. Come and witness a new concept in parading. For details/enter parade call 452-6467.

Front Door Christmas Contest
All residents are invited to enter Christmas Front Door contest. Make it a Family affair by December 8th. Judges will select and place sign in yard December 10th. All doors need to be lit up for night viewing.

Operation Blue Santa
Please consider donating new, unwrapped toys and gifts for local children in need.  Donations are being accepted at the Chickasaw Police Department, Fire House and City Hall until December 19th.

Breakfast with Santa
All kids young and older are invited to have breakfast with Santa. Saturday Dec. 21st at the Civic Center, 8:00 am-9 am. $2 person. Make it a tradition.

Kids Christmas Breaks Days
Its Christmas break, let’s have some Fun. Sign the kids up now for Christmas Camp. Ages 4-12 from 8 am-5:30 pm. Dec. 26-27 and Jan. 2-3 $10 per week per child. Call 452-6462 to reserve a spot/details.

Chickasaw Youth Basketball League (Auditorium)
Registering Now, for Boys and Girls ages 5-15 by January 7th.
Draft January 7th:   6 pm for ages 9 & under, 6:30 pm for ages 10-12, 7 pm for ages 13-15
Registration $25.00 per player CHA residents can pick up wavier. Call 452-6462 to register.

Chickasaw Historic Preservation Society
The Historic Society will be sponsoring a Christmas Decorating Contest. One cash prize will be awarded for the best lighted exterior display in the West Village Historic District. Judging will be held Dec. 24th. Call to confirm if need for boundaries of district. 251-680-6889.

Habitat for Humanity
The Chickasaw Historical Society, Chickasaw City School System, and Habitat for Humanity of SW Alabama have partnered to bring affordable housing and to rehab existing homes in the City of Chickasaw.  There will be a public information presentation with details on how to qualify and apply on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 5:30 pm in the Chickasaw Housing Authority community room.

Ballroom Dance Classes

Strength & Stretch Exercise Class
Join us on Tuesdays at 6:15 pm for a workout using exercises that build strength for functional daily living done in a manner to produce a cardio-respiratory benefit with an added yoga-inspired stretch. $5/class. Chickasaw Community Shelter. Call for details: 251-210-2995

Karate Classes for all Ages
Discipline, friendship, obligation, respect, pride, honor, loyalty, unity, tradition and self-defense are taught on Tuesday and Thursday. $3 per-lesson First lesson Free. 5:30 pm-6:30 pm Civic Center

GED Classes
Getting your Alabama General Education development credential is an important move
